David Kalson

Mr. David Kalson is the chair of the Emerging Business Group at Cohen & Grigsby, a Pittsburgh-based law firm. Mr. Kalson concentrates his practice on providing general business and tax counsel to life science, robotics, information technology, energy and other emerging companies, investors and investment funds, and institutions engaged in business and technology spin-offs and joint ventures. In that role, he has advised dozens of early-stage university spin-out companies.

An alumnus of the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he served on the Law Review, Mr. Kalson holds BA (magna cum laude) and JD degrees. His teaching experience includes several years as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in the area of Enterprise Organization and Finance and as a faculty member of the Global Trade Institute. Mr. Kalson has also served as the Co-Chair of the 3 Rivers Venture Fair boot-camp committee.

Mr. Kalson created Cohen & Grigsby's AlphaLaw program to work closely with AlphaLab and AlphaLab for Gear, two nationally recognized accelerators run by Innovation Works, a leading business development organization. The AlphaLab accelerators provide early-stage technology companies with funding, an extensive mentor network, educational sessions with industry leaders, and a rich entrepreneurial work environment. Mr. Kalson also serves on the Board of Wellbridge Health, a complex care telehealth solution provider for the managed care industry.

Mr. Kalson has served as president, chair, or board member of many charitable organizations. He and his wife Susan have three grown children and live in the Squirrel Hill area of Pittsburgh.
