Pittsburgh Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases

The Pittsburgh Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (PIND) focuses on basic research on degenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and Huntington’s diseases, as well as stroke. Investigators study mechanisms of neural cell death, new genetic models of neurodegenerative disease, and methods for protecting the nervous system with drugs, physical interventions, and gene therapy. PIND has been designated as a Morris K. Udall Center for Parkinson’s Disease Research by the National Institutes of Health, as well as an Advanced Center for Parkinson Disease Research by the American Parkinson Disease Association.
