Postdoc Associate position in Burton Lab

The Burton lab at the University of Pittsburgh is looking for a postdoctoral scientist with expertise in confocal imaging and image analysis to join a collaborative group studying the pathogenesis of human neurological disease, using novel transgenic and knockout zebrafish models.  A recent new grant award has made it possible for the lab to expand their zebrafish live imaging group. In collaboration with the Center for Biologic Imaging at the University of Pittsburgh, the Burton lab team is investigating the roles of specific of biochemical and cell biological abnormalities in zebrafish models of tauopathy, by exploiting fluorescent reporters to image these events in the intact CNS in vivo in real time.

The successful applicant will be experienced in all aspects of microscopy, confocal imaging, and image analysis and will preferably be experienced in zebrafish work.  Competence in data analysis is also required, including a sound working knowledge of MATLAB, Image J, Nikon Elements, Imaris, and experience in developing MATLAB scripts.  A solid background in the theory and practice of image analysis is also necessary.  Knowledge of molecular biology, genetics and neurobiology of human movement disorders would also be advantageous.

Requirements:

  • PhD in neuroscience, biological science or a related discipline (or MD with equivalent research experience) and track record of productivity
  • Experience and competence in confocal imaging and troubleshooting advanced imaging issues
  • Experience and competence in data analysis
  • Experience using MATLAB and developing applications
  • Excellent communication skills, fluent in written and spoken English, ability to work in a team
  • Prior experience with zebrafish models would be highly advantageous

Salary Information: Salary depending on relevant experience and seniority
